Resources Suitable for Lord & Lady
There are those who wish to wear costumes appropriate to the appearance and behaviour of the day. After all, the sleeve of a tailored jacket is a much more convenient place than a back pocket for storing a set of secret naval plans. Costumes and props are encouraged and appreciated, but not required. Many of the fashions of Castle Falkenstein are a little "forward": that is, the pictures generally show fashions roughly ten years ahead of their corresponding "real world" date. The mutton-leg dresses of the 1890's (our world) are shown for characters circa the 1880's. While this particular game is set in 1888, the costumes worn to these game run the gamut of 1860s - 1910. The truly couture-concious may debate the "correct" height for your ankle boots, but the goal here is to have some fun and to show off what you've pulled together. Education We understand that some of you are coming from great distances to the time and place of Victorian New Europa or Northern American Countries. We are no more unsympathetic than we are helpful, so we have provided several resources of entertaining reading and interaction that may help get you into the mood. Tailoring Even for the well-off Lord or Lady, budgets are always a concern. Others do not like the common chore of purchasing "off the shelf". Others still may appreciate their own skilled handiwork. For that, these links to sites for patterns befitting the era. For those who would like to tailor their costume towards a particular character (or would like to see if there is already a character that would match their costume), we encourage those to contact us ahead of time. Dry Goods Time is not always on our side, and there are certain things we cannot provide for ourselves (such as a small forge for whitesmithing). Others are not as talented with the needle and thread. For this, there are dry goods, the general store, the marketplace. These are pre-made items that may help you get into the mood.
